Yahoo! Finance adds bitcoin quotes, headlines to market data

Bitcoin is here to stay, and it appears that business news publications and search engines are taking notice. Whether or not bitcoin survives as a virtual currency or as a revolutionary technology remains to be seen, but the major facet is that the digital currency will likely stay prevalent, at least in the near future.

Case in point is the latest addition to Yahoo! Finance. On its website, the media giant added quotes of the peer-to-peer decentralized virtual currency to its market data. Readers can view a summary of “BTCUSD=X” and its previous, open, bid and asking prince and daily and 52-week ranges. The numbers are updated frequently.

Also on the webpage are basic and interactive charts that examine its value fluctuations over the past five years. If investors want to find the latest news on bitcoin then there is a list of headlines from around the web.

The search engine didn’t make any announcement nor did it issue a press release on the newest addition to its finance page.

Yahoo isn’t the first company to incorporate bitcoin into its website.

In April, Bloomberg News installed bitcoin prices into its various financial data terminals. The business news outlet noted that everyone is talking about the cryptocurrency and it’s an important business headlines, even if it’s a bubble on the verge of bursting or a technology to change the banking and payments system.

Essentially, there were three primary reasons for the implementation: innovation, demand and transparency.

DuckDuckGo, a search engine that respects its users’ privacy and voids filtered searches, inserted a feature that allows individuals to instantly locate bitcoin prices. This is achieved by typing in “bitcoin price” and prices as well as advertisements appear.

Bing was another search engine that included an instantaneous bitcoin price feature in its search queue. It decided to take advantage of bitcoin’s ubiquity in the news and the fact that Google has yet to follow a similar route.

Update: Google Finance has added bitcoin to its network. It is unknown as to when this feature was incorporated but now the search engine juggernaut has added bitcoin prices, charts and news headlines to its financial webpage.
