Mutual Fund
Related: open-end fund, closed-end fund. Pools of money managed by investment companies, regulated under the 1940 Investment Company Act. Investors have many different investment goals to choose from, depending on the strategy of the fund manager. For example, some funds are aimed at giving regular income, other are risk averse, capital growth funds. An investor may need to pay a sales load (charge) to buy into the fund or sell units or shares of the fund. Some funds offer zero loads, which means there are no charges on buying or selling.
