Google because of the recent controversies and developments is making sure that no stone is unturned to protect its credibility. For that matter, Google has sent an email to all the app developers that they will have to give a genuine postal address (which can be reached whenever needed) if they want to stay in business with Google. It doesn’t matter whether the app developer is a developed registered firm or a private maker they all have to comply with Google Inc.’s (NASDAQ:GOOG) new policy. Google means business because those who will refuse to provide the necessary information may even be banned from the app store; this warning was stated in the email, which was sent to app developers by Google.
The policy has been implemented because Google has become extremely particular about the quality of apps on its Google Play store. Google is making sure that no one can make mediocre apps and get away with it. As we all know, Google relies heavily on the revenues it gains from app purchases and in the past few months it has been criticized for having a barrage of low quality apps made by private users.
Google recently launched its Android One in India to help small time manufacturers make inexpensive quality phones. The move is an indication that Google takes its software system very seriously. Not only that, Google wants to expand and enhance its app purchases therefore it is taking measures to improve its app quality.
It is another great move from Google. It will not only discourage scammers from adding useless apps to the store, but will also allow Google to keep track of those developers who come with apps that sell well.
This policy will not affect registered app developers at all; however independent developers may have some issues with it. These independent developers may not want to share their personal postal address with millions of app users. Many of these app developers are online tech heads and a large number of grad school students. They have raised their voice against this policy; therefore it will be interesting to see if Google can solve this little dilemma.
Google Inc. may have to solve this issue sooner than later. Why? Because Google Play Store thrives on apps that are developed by private app developers and if these developers unite against Google then company may have a problem at hand. This could create a monopoly for the registered companies who may start to charge way more than their regular costs. But this is just one possibility, which seems highly unlikely.
Google will not want any controversy to arise from the policy because of late the company has had to deal with a few unwanted issues. Though seen in a prudential light, Google is only trying to improve the quality of apps it offers to its customers.
We will find out soon enough if this new policy will cost Google some of its best independent app developers. In all fairness Google Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOGL) has every right to implement a policy that will allow the company to offer better services to its customers.
