Google Inc. Replaces Captcha with New Anti-robot Technique

If you’re a human being and you absolutely detest trying to decipher distorted letters and numbers then perhaps you’ll be pleased about Google Inc.’s (NASDAQ:GOOG) newest plan to replace the dreaded captcha with a new anti-robot mechanism.

According to a blog post by Vinay Shet, a production manager at Google’s recaptcha, robots have discovered ways to solve the combinations of random letters and numbers by using artificial intelligence. With this development, Google believes robots are able to solve these texts nearly 100 percent of the time.

This means that the next time you wish to post a comment on a blog, purchase a product online or sign into your email you won’t need to fill out a captcha. Instead, the only thing users will have to do to prove they’re human is to check a box that simply states “I’m not a robot.”

Captcha

“For most users, this dramatically simplifies the experience. hey basically get a free pass,” wrote Shet. “You can solve the captcha without having to solve it. This shows that the act of typing in the answer to a distorted image should not be the only factor when it comes to determining a human versus a machine

Shet explained that the new platform incorporates advanced analysis to discover robots. Prior to checking the box, the interface observes a user’s activity prior to, during and after the box to conclude if the user is a human or a robot. However, the new system isn’t entirely fallible because if the technology can’t determine if the user is human then it will apply more “security checkpoints,” including the aforementioned blurry text and tapping photos of cats and turkeys.

“Humans, we’ll continue our work to keep the Internet safe and easy to use,” Shet added. “Abusive bots and scripts, it’ll only get worse — sorry we’re (still) not sorry.”

The Google Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOGL) official noted that websites that have utilized the newest developments have already noticed success, such as Snapchat and WordPress.

Google also released a brief video highlighting its “noCAPTCHA reCAPTCHA.”
