First Bing, now DuckDuckGo provides bitcoin buy & sell prices via Blockchain

In response to Google and other search engines’ policies of tracking its users’ searches, DuckDuckGo was established that prides itself on protecting searchers’ privacy and avoiding filtered searches. Recently, it has become a venue for bitcoin prices.

It was discovered by newsBTC that the search engine implemented a feature that allows individuals instantly find the price of bitcoin by typing in the search query “bitcoin price.” Others, though, such as “bitcoin value” or “what is the price of bitcoin?” have yet to be added.

DuckDuckGo directs users to the Markets page at Blockchain.info and also acts as the primary source for indicating the digital currency’s value. The numbers are regularly updated.

Bing is another search engine that has installed a similar function. When a user types in “bitcoin price,” they are informed of how much one bitcoin is worth in the user’s respected currency. This time, the search engine utilizes Coinbase.

This new feature has not been installed by Google or Yahoo.

Some bitcoiners have lauded the concept because it provides instant information, while also giving novices quick data on the value of the virtual currency.

It was reported earlier this year that the search engine juggernaut was considering integrating bitcoin into its business model. The news was accidentally slipped by Google senior vice president of Ads and Commerce Sridhar Ramaswamy.

“We are working in the payments team to figure out how to incorporate bitcoin into our plans,” Ramaswamy wrote one bitcoin investor in an email.

At the time of this writing, bitcoin is trading at $460 (using the DuckDuckGo search query).
