Bank for International Settlements (BIS)
Stands for the international bank Switzerland, that is located in Basel. It functions as a central body for facilitating monetary cooperation between various central banks across Europe, the U.S. Federal Reserve System and the Bank of Japan. Also oversees and gathers data on worldwide banking operations and establishes international bank rules. It was established in 1930 for handling World War I reparations paid by Germany.
