Apple Inc. Busted for Intentionally Blocking Text Messages

Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) has been in the news a lot lately with different controversies and it seems that Apple is in trouble yet again but this time the trouble is with the law. Apple Inc. is asked to face a U.S federal lawsuit due to a complaint filed against it by a former iPhone user. The claim against Apple suggests that Apple knowingly with-held from the consumers the fact that Apple’s messaging system will block messages from other iPhone users, if a person switched phones from iPhone to Android or any other non-Apple wireless device.

U.S district judge Lucy Koh in San Jose California ordered Apple to face the claims that are made by Adrienne Moore. Moore in her complaint said that the message blocking hindered in her plan with Verizon Wireless for wireless services, which she continued even after she switched phones from iPhone 4 to Galaxy S5 in April. Moore believes that Apple did not disclose that switching to iOS8 will cause this problem of not getting number of messages from iPhone users who switched from iPhone to another Smartphone brands.

On Monday night Koh made a decision in favor of Moore, saying that Moore deserves at least one chance to prove that Apple did cause issues with her wireless service contract and thus violated California’s law of unfair competition by blocking messages that were meant for Moore. Apple and Android are rivals and they have a huge competition where a lot of people are inclined towards iPhone and almost same number of people prefers to have Android based Smartphone.

After Moore’s claims Apple Inc. argued that services rely on the carriers and it is their responsibility to provide the customers with the services they want and Apple has no intention of causing problem between the carrier’s services and the user. Apple argued that blocking SMS holds no incentive for the company, however, the court decided against Apple and said that Apple has indeed indulged into unfair business practices. Apple’s spokesperson Kristin Huguet refused to give any comments regarding the lawsuit.

Apple however came up with a tool that would deregister phone numbers from iMessages for a smoother transition from iOS to non-Apple devices. By deregistering the number no user will be able to send an iMessage to that number. iMessages can only be opened on iPhones or other Apple devices and that is the reason why Android or another phone could not open an iMessage. By getting the number out of the system no one will be able to send an iMessage to that number and therefore the problem of disappearing messages will be solved.

With this tool all you have to do is enter the phone number that you want to deregister from Apple Inc.’s (NASDAQ:AAPL) iMessage system. Apple upon receiving the number will send you a confirmation code via SMS. Type the confirmation code in the browser window and your number will be deregistered with Apple. Now once the process is done, switching to Android or any other non-Apple wireless device will be smooth and hassle free.
