Google Glass (GOOG) Future Not So Clear

Google in 2013 came up with a new technology, which has never been applied before in the industrial or private sector, known as Google glass. It’s a type of wearable technology that was introduced with an objective of producing ubiquitous computer on eco scale in the market. Google Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOG) launched this technology on April 15th 2013 for a limited period of time to check its demand; the initial price of Google Glass was $1500 only for glass explorers and later it was launched for the general public on May the 14th only in the US. Google Glass resembles a pair of glasses and acts as an extension to the wearer’s smartphone and performs a few simple tasks.

Here are some of the features the wearer can enjoy;

The glasses are designed to take photos and make videos. They can also make calls and deliver search results. These glasses also work on voice recognition commands, for example if you want to take a picture you just simply have to give the command.

Despite these features the product has faced criticism, which later led to its failure in the open market. Even Google’s Inc Co founder Sergey Brin doesn’t seem to have much trust in the product. According to critics users can expect curious stares while wearing the glasses. One critic claimed that she was harassed and attacked in the bar because of wearing the glasses, which everyone thought was a recording device. Even though the glass can record videos but according to her she was only there for a drink. After the incident a number of bars placed a ban on wearing glasses inside their bars.

According to independent sources out of 16 glass app makers nine said that they have already stopped working on the product because of its limitations, less expected sales and general unacceptability of the product in the market. These are a few reasons why glass users are losing interest in the product. It is priced at $1500 with only 5 megapixels camera, a processor and stamp sized computer system using optical head mounted display – simply not worth the money. It contains a 2.1Wh battery with an android 4.42. It has a 2 GB RAM and 16GB storage drive. However there are still many developers who believe in the idea of Google Glass.

According to the Chief Executive of Little Guy Games even if Google manages to sell 200 million units of its glasses the product still has no market. Kleiner Perkins Caufield and Byers and Andreessen Horowitz have already deleted their links to the glass website. Babak pervez, Adrian Wong and Ossama Alami key Google glass technology developers have also left the Company.

Google Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOGL) however claims it will keep the project going claiming they are fully energized and optimistic about the new trend of wearable technology, especially Google Glass. Google so far has not announced any specific date for the product launch. According to some analysts not announcing an official release date of the final version of the product shows Google’s lack of trust in the product.
