iPhone Evolution

The launch

The first ever Apple Inc. iPhone made its debut back in 2007; its release date was June 29th. The entire smartphone market changed with the new iPhone. It created the type of competition that forced the companies to innovate and bring forward devices that would define our future. 2007 iPhone became known for its user friendly interface and became a hit with the crowd.

When the phone was revealed, its simple functions such as bar sliding for unlocking the screen and scrolling in music function held everyone’s attention. The first iPhone had Google maps, a simple interface and a rather bulky built. Even back then it ruled the market and became one of the most wanted phones among the customers. Its audio/video messaging feature added to its charm.

In 2009 Apple iOS3 came out and it added yet another attractive feature to the iPhone that wasn’t a part of iPhone previously. The iPod app became Music app, the voice control features were added and copy/paste and video and audio messages were introduced with the new iOS3. The phone went on to gather the highest sales for a smartphone that year. The build was again a bit bulky but it was sleeker than the previous phone.

By the year 2010, iPhone had built itself a strong and loyal customer base. With iPhone 4, iOS4 and multitasking were introduced; it also enabled users to change the home screen wallpaper. The best feature about the new iPhone 4 was its facetime that allowed free video calling. Although the phone came with a heavy price tag but it still managed to accumulate top sales that year.

The iOS5 included apps like iCloud which enabled the users to have their backups saved on the Apple’s internet servers; it also featured a drop down notification screen and Twitter integration.

The iOS6 brought a radical change; Apple changed its interface and dropped Google maps in favor of its own Apple maps, which is still considered inferior to Google maps.

In 2013 iOS7 came out in which Apple changed the interface completely and most of its apps were redesigned to have a new look.

The preview of iOS8 was given last June; the new interface has been simplified and made flexible to accommodate multitasking, no interruptions in video, audio etc. It is believed that the latest iPhone 6 will be powered by the new iOS8.

The wait for the latest version is almost over; it will be interesting to see how Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) iPhone will be received with its brand new look and size.
