Consumers Credit Union is paying 3.09% APY on its checking account to savers who have balances of $5,000 (maximum). This can be availed acorss the country.

There are other rates that pay more, but are limited to savers in just a few states. One such is Southern Bank, which offers 4.01% APY through its branches in Arkansas and Missouri. The maximum balance on which the rate can be availed is $15,000.
