With its free checking account, Capital One Bank is paying rates based on where you reside.

If you maintain a deposit of at least $5,000 at the bank and live close to one of the bank’s branches, you can get 1.01% APY. Savers who don’t reside close to a branch will get a lower rate. However, they will not have to maintain a minimum balance.
