Google Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOG) might soon include Google Chrome with the Windows 8 phone platform. This is in response to a massive user demand for the browser. Google Chrome is popular for its flexibility, compatibility and security features. Not to mention, developers enjoy using Chrome because it has convenient options for examining a site’s underlying code structure.
Although, back in October 2012, a request was submitted to get a Windows phone version of the browser, that request was never completed. However, it seems that it is now being revisited. Also, the team heading development of the mobile application is researching whether or not Google Chrome can be ported to the Windows phone OS.
Despite all of this movement, there is still no guarantee that Google and Microsoft will move forward with the collaboration although it seems more likely than it ever has. What may halt the project is if Microsoft decides that the only browsers allowed are those that are based upon the Internet Explorer rendering engine. If Microsoft chooses to go this route, then Google Chrome will be out of the running. Not to mention, Microsoft may lose some of its current smartphone customers.
Nonetheless, it would behoove Microsoft to work with Google Chrome. Users want access to most popular apps available. In addition, they want as large a selection as other platforms provide. There is no question that Microsoft is acutely aware of this fact. Especially since the Android platform is the dominating force in today’s mobile market.
Furthermore, Microsoft has a bevy of apps that are available in the Google Play store. In the spirit goodwill, they might want to consider hosting Google Chrome in return.
