Google Inc. One Step Closer to Global Internet Access

Google Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOG) is a company that is known for providing innovative technological solutions to the world. The company, under its Google X division, has been developing technology that resolves many global issues and perform functions that people otherwise had to invest their energy and time to perform. Under the Google X division, Google Inc. has developed and released the Google Glass technology (which has now been stopped and abandoned by the company due to technical issues), and is currently developing driverless cars (that will also incorporate the internet within them) as well as trying to provide faster internet access throughout the US.

One major plan that the company has, which is also part of the company’s goal statement, is to provide cheap internet access to the entire world via satellite. According to industry experts, this plan by Google Inc. is ambitious, however it is not that easy for the company to provide internet all over the world via satellite, considering the heavy costs the company would have to incur in order to achieve the feat. Facebook is another company that, under the leadership of Mark Zuckerberg, aims to provide the internet to the entire world. However, Facebook does not have the resources that Google Inc. has, and hence, Google Inc. is much more confident in its aim to bring the internet to the world.

In fact, according to recent reports, Google Inc. has already finalized a $1 billion dollar deal with Space Exploration Technology Corp. (SETC) for the development of a system run by Google Inc. that would allow the company to forward internet services to the world via satellite.

Internet

The space industry is already a fast growing one. With the recent deal that Google Inc. has signed, SpaceX would end up with a value of $10 billion. The company has a strong backing by the car company Tesla Motors’s CEO Elon Musk.

The increase of reach for internet services is not a philanthropic activity being conducted by the company. As Google Inc.’s entire business model works on the premise of user accessibility to the internet, the more people are or the internet, the more business it would be for Google Inc. Hence, bringing more and more people onto the internet would translate into increased revenue for Google Inc.

SpaceX, the company Google Inc. is teaming up with for the satellite project, works on rockets and spacecraft that are destined to be launched into space.

This is not the first project that Google Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOGL) has undertaken in order to spread internet all over the world. Previously, the company has already tried to spread the internet globally via weather balloons. That project was termed as Project Loon, however, it has not been as successful and feasible as the company hoped the project would be.

However, industry experts are of the opinion the satellite model that Google Inc. has planned with SpaceX will be a much better, more feasible option for the company, and will be a more fruitful option for the company as far as its mission to spread the internet all over the world is concerned.
