Critics Say Apple Inc. iPhone 6 is Playing ‘Catch-up’

Yesterday was the day when Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) finally came out of dormancy after almost one year and unveiled the much anticipated iPhone 6 and the gadget that had intrigued everyone for over a year, Apple Watch. The smartwatch which was initially dubbed iWatch became the latest addition to Apple’s gadgetry collection. The Apple Watch integrates health and fitness with other capabilities like maps and GPS.

Apple unveiled two iPhones with larger screens than their predecessor iPhone 5. The sizes for the display screens for the new iPhones are 4.7 inches and 5.5 inches – the 5.5 inch iPhone is being called iPhone Plus.

iPhone is being recognized as exactly what Apple needed and the watch is getting rave reviews for its beautiful design from a few analysts and critics, but praise is not all Apple is getting.

iPhone 6 Revealed

Apple’s move into the large screen competition is justified as Samsung and HTC have fared well with their large screen phones. Immediately after the announcement of the new phones, Apple had a raise in the stock market by 4.5 percent.

Reaction to Apple iPhone 6 has been a mix of win and fail. Some of the Apple loyalists have termed it a revolutionary smartphone while a few analysts, critics and bloggers have laughed it off as a phone that is trying to ‘catch up’ with big rivals like Samsung and HTC. It’s no secret that over the year Samsung and HTC have grown significantly. Apple Plus with its 5.5 inches screen is in direct competition with Samsung’s latest NOTE 4. But what do these critics have to say about the jump in the stock value?

A few critics have been hard to please; they declared the features of the latest Apple Inc. iPhone merely adequate with an 8MP camera, NFC payments feature, Cloud photo backup etc, calling these specs of a bygone era.

Whereas some analysts believe that iPhone 6 will do better than its competitors even though the large screen feature came in quite late. The main reason for this is the wide customer loyalty the brand enjoys. Even if the specs are not completely unique, but they are at par with its rivals, which may prove to be good enough for iPhone sales. Being in the same line with the best gives you an equal chance of being the best.

Apple Watch faced skepticism from analysts, who think that just like the other smartwatch attempts made in the past by different companies; Apple Watch will make lukewarm sales and probably fade away into obscurity sooner than later. People aren’t aware of the significance of wearable tech and the youth doesn’t seem to be much interested either. Health apps and maps are the features that least concern the majority of youth. The only chance it stands is to be accepted for its beautiful and classic design.

Both versions of Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) iPhone 6 will be available for sales on the 19th of September this year in almost 10 countries; whereas the watch is expected to start selling early next year. The price tag for iPhone 6 ranges from $199 to $399 and for iPhone Plus it is between $299 and $499, depending on the storage the phone offers. Moreover the watch will be available for $349 or more.

All of these gadgets were revealed at the Flint Center for the Performing Arts at De Anza College in Cupertino.
