Another Twitter Inc. Executive Flies the Coop

Vivian Schiller, a Twitter Inc. (NYSE:TWTR) news executive who collaborated with newsrooms and journalists, announced Wednesday that she would be stepping down from her role at the social network.

Schiller, who joined the social media juggernaut less than a year ago, confirmed the move in a series of tweets. Schiller joins a growing list of executives who are exiting the social media company – her departure comes as Chloe Sladden, her former boss, and COO Ali Rowghani resigned from Twitter this past summer.

According to the New York Times, Schiller was tapped by Twitter during her time at NBC News by both Sladden and Rowghani. It is unknown as to where Schiller will wind up, but with years of experience at NPR and the Times, experts say it’s likely she’ll find work immediately.

In her tweets, Schiller noted that Katie Jacobs Stanton, the head of global media at Twitter, will reorganize the ranks as she sees fits.

“1/3 Stepping down from Twitter so new global media lead @katies can reorganize as she sees fit. Wish everyone at twitter nothing but best.

“2/3 Many thanks to @chloes and @rowghani for convincing me to come work at Twitter. It was a fascinating experience.

“3/3 And mostly, thanks to all the great journalists and newsrooms I collaborated with. Your innovation & creativity is an inspiration.”

A Twitter spokesperson confirmed to the Wall Street Journal that Adam Sharp will replace Schiller in a new combined role that will oversee both government and news partnerships. Sharp, who first joined the firm in 2010, has previously helmed the company’s government and elections team.

Before the announcement, Twitter Inc. (NYSE:TWTR) has been the victim of significant market value reductions since the beginning of the year. This is due to a paucity of users and usage growth. However, Twitter has reached and exceeded each metric measured by the Journal in the last quarter.
